My group at MetService is concerned with the statistical side of operational weather forecasting. We learn relationships between past weather and the corresponding past output of numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, and use those relationships together with current NWP output to create probabilistic weather forecasts.
For the past three years or so we have been moving towards Julia for our research tasks, and are beginning to use it in our operational forecasting systems.
